Turn to the Skies
When times are tougher than steel,
and pain is the dominant race,
and rescue from sorrow seems distant,
and renegade rainstorms run rampant,
and withering love dies in dumpsters,
and good-will is run through with greed,
and xenophobes stand on their soap-boxes,
and harlots pervert every hymn,
and far away voices scream, Help us!
and die in the next wave of gunfire...
those are truly dark times.
But in our darkest times,
we can turn to the skies
and smile.
We can break from neglect
and pause to reflect
for a while.
